TV Meme Day 30: And thus we come to our end

4seeingred

Day 30 - Saddest character death

BTVS Season 5: “Seeing Red” – Tara is shot

I don’t think there is another option. There has been no death on any show that hurt as much as this loss, including Anya in the finale and Doyle in Season 1 of Angel.

Joss cocked the Fuck With The Fans gun by including Amber Benson in the opening credits for this episode. Those of us who were stupid enough to be spoiled by this were pretty much horrified that he would do that to us, but the truth is, it’s such a Joss thing to do it’s not even funny.

After struggling through the majority of the season with Tara being a background character, there mostly to torture Crack!Magic Willow, they finally got back together! YAY! Bliss! Peace! Happiness! Relationship normality for our characters!

All episode they were lovey dovey and sweet. Fuck the censors, fuck the parent council. They kissed. They macked. There was nakedness under red sheets, normally reserved on Whedon shows for the hetero couples, finally claimed by the only normal couple we’ve had.

And then they’re clothed, and there’s belt loop tugging and yay, Buffy and Xander will make up.

“Your shirt.”

Joss has said no one cries like Alyson Hannigan, and he’s so right. Sarah Michelle Gellar is an incredible crier, as is Amy Acker. But neither one of them holds a candle to Aly. And when she sobbed over Tara’s dead body, I don’t think there was a fan who didn’t feel it in their soul.

Hands down, dollars to donuts. Best worst death ever.

If it was eligible, I would love to have said Shepherd Book from Serenity. It’s a television character, but he died in the movie, so he doesn’t get to be included. But for the dialogue between Mal and Book alone, it deserves an honorable mention.

Mal: I look to be bored by many more sermons before you slip. Just don't move.
Book: Can't order me around, boy. I'm not one of your crew.
Mal: Yes, you are.

Wash’s death was shocking and horrifying and sad, but it was fast and in the moment. This was painful, and we felt it.

This is the final TV Meme entry. In the past month, I doubled my entries. And it was SO much fun. I’m kind of sad it’s over.

Someone find me another meme!

TV Meme Day 29: Slacking again!

Coming to the end of the TV meme, and I've let it slip once more. Not totally my fault. I had a flake-out on one answer, then I got a brand spankin' new computer that rocks my world and distracted me from blogging. But I'm back now! I think.
Day 27 - Best pilot episode

Angel - City Of

This is kind of cheating, because it's a pilot for a spin-off show. But with this spin-off, Joss Whedon let his Buffy fans know what they were in for. This wasn't going to be a family friendly Buffy show. This was much more adult, and a lot darker.

David Boreanaz was never better on this show than he was in Season 1, especially right at the beginning. He was still broody, and still young enough to be a hot vampire. We got to meet Doyle, World's Best Sidekick (if there were a meme entry for Best Sidekick, it would be Doyle, btdub) and incredible comic relief on the show. Sadly Glenn Quinn's real life problems caused us to lose him halfway through the season in one of the greatest character deaths we had on any of the shows.

And we had the real Cordy. The bitch who didn't really care about anything and was really only helping Angel because she wasn't making any money and she could get something from it. She and Angel weren't in love, and life was shiny.

Great start to a fantastic season. And a great show that kind of sunk deeper and deeper into not so great, but was still amazing to watch.

"So are you still...grrr?"
"There's not actually a cure for that."

Day 28 - First TV show obsession

Clarissa Explains it All

There was no bad with this show, and I watched it religiously. Clarissa was the quintessential cool teen (was she even a teen when the show started?). I related to absolutely NOTHING about her life, and I wanted to live it. I wanted an annoying little brother and a hippie mom and a dorky dad. I wanted to dress like she did (which, in reality, was tragic), I wanted a computer like hers. I wanted to live in a two-story house so that my platonic guy friend could climb a ladder to visit me.

The show also referenced pop culture. Even today, a lot of teen shows will not reference current pop culture unless there's something in it for them, such as a guest appearance by an artist who needs publicity. In the very first episode, They Might Be Giants was name dropped. When Ferguson conned his father out of money to buy an INXS tape, Clarissa busted him by putting the tape into their stereo, and "Suicide Blonde" boomed out of the speakers. It should be noted that in the Season 1 DVD, they inserted generic fake music. Someone didn't want to pay royalties.

My favorite was that they did, in fact, reference Nirvana. It's the pop culture reference I immediately go to when discussing the show.

I wrote fanfiction for this show. I will say nothing more.

Day 29 - Current TV show obsession

I don't...have...one.

I'm obssessed with the fact that Dollhouse Season 2 is coming out on DVD soon, and I can't wait. Does that count? :(

Leverage. Castle. Top Chef.

Honestly, I haven't been obsessed about a television show since Dollhouse was canceled. It makes me sad not to get bouncy pouncy excited about a show anymore. In fact, three episodes of Leverage have aired, and I haven't watched them yet. This makes me so sad. I miss being excited about television shows.

TV Meme Day 26: OMG WTF BBQ

Day 26 | OMG WTF? Season finale

Mad Men, Season 1, "The Wheel"

I may be biased on this answer, because I'm currently watching the commentary for Season 3 of Mad Men.

I started watching the show because Vincent Kartheiser and Christina Hendricks were both on the show. I didn't know any of the other actors, and was prepared to fast foward past all parts that didn't involve the two.

Oh, how surprising THAT one was.

What an insanely fantastic show, from episode one on. Beautiful cast, incredible wardrobe and set design, sharp writing. I really can't say enough about the show.

I wondered if I should pick this finale, because all three of the finales so far have been jaw-dropping with edge-of-your-seat cliffhangers. But this was the original, and this was the one that really knocked me on my ass and made me long for the next season.

I don't know what's wrong with me that I didn't see Peggy was pregnant. I legitimitally did not see that she'd gained that much weight, and didn't see the warning signs. Why? I'm a dumbass. That's the only excuse I can offer.

But the two big plot lines exploded in the finale. Don's cheating was revealed, causing him to be alone at the end of the episode, with the audience not knowing the fate of the marriage. He'd discovered his brother was dead, and we got that incredibly moving scene with the Kodak Carousel.

And Peggy, who'd finally gotten recognition and a modicum of respect from Don at the office, popped out a kid. She didn't know she was pregnant, I didn't know she was pregnant, I hope OTHER people might've missed it, as well, and that I'm not just an idiot.

When the credits rolled, I squealed with indignation. And looked forward immensely to the next season. And at the end of that season, I squealed with indignation and couldn't wait for the next. And at the end of the last season?

Yeah. July 25th cannot come fast enough.

TV Meme Day 25: Coming Soon

Day 25 | A show you plan on watching

Doctor Who

Unlike all of the other shows my friends are constantly foisting on me, this actually seems like a show I would legitimately enjoy. The really funny part? I know absolutely NOTHING about Doctor Who. Nothing. Nada. Zip.

I know that the very pretty man featured in the graphic is said Doctor. I know there's someone named Rose. I know that there are these weird R2-D2 looking things, which I think are called...Daleks? Or something to that affect? Possibly the R2-D2 looking things are not called Daleks (sp), but something else is.

As I said, my knowledge is extremely shaky.

But you can tell a lot about a fandom not only by the fans, but the quality of the fandom actions. And I really enjoy seeing the Dr Who fandom. Including my best friend Laura, who was absolutely horrified to learn I'd never seen it.

To be fair, I have seen one episode. The only thing I can tell you is Anthony Stewart Head played a head master of a school. Absolutely no clue about the rest of the show. Couldn't throw anything out there.

I would like to be a Dr Who fan when I grow up.

See Ry's entry for another show I'll see someday.

TV Meme Day 24: Best Quote

Day 24 - Best quote

So here's the part where you make a choice. What if you could have that power, now? In every generation, one Slayer is born, because a bunch of men who died thousands of years ago made up that rule. They were powerful men. This woman is more powerful than all of them combined. So I say we change the rule. I say my power, should be *our* power. Tomorrow, Willow will use the essence of this scythe to change our destiny. From now on, every girl in the world who might be a Slayer, will be a Slayer. Every girl who could have the power, will have the power. Can stand up, will stand up. Slayers, every one of us. Make your choice. Are you ready to be strong?

See RyAn's choice for what finally kicked my brain into gear on choosing the perfect quote.

Only Joss could've given us this finale. As unhappy as I was with so much of the season, and the finale itself, this was beautiful, and perfect, and I am weeping, thanks for asking.

TV Meme Day 22: Let's Go to Work

Day 22 - Favorite series finale

Angel - Not Fade Away (2004, episode 110)

This is not an easy question. Series finales are painful. It's the end of an era. If done properly, they drag out tears and horror and death.

Buffy does not qualify. As amazing as the "Every woman is a slayer" message was, I wasn't pleased with the way the show ended. I wish my favorite show could take the spot here, but it can't. The spin-off, however, well qualifies.

When the hour was up, and the credits rolled, I was in shock. I'd cried my way through most of it, and wasn't looking at the clock. I went outside and cried some more.

The show ended, and it managed to do what neither show had done in years. I loved every single character. That includes characters I hadn't appreciated in a very very long time.

This meme will be told through a picspam. Enjoy.

TV Meme Day 21 - Ours is a forever love

I loved you with my last breath Day 21 - Favorite ship - Buffy/Angel (BTVS/Angel)

I take it I'm limited to real 'ships, right? My beloved unconventional ships don't apply here?

Bastards.

I started watching BTVS mid Season 2. Full fledged Angelus leather pants. I was immediately drawn into this star-crossed pain filled lover storyline. As I watched the season, and caught up on as many reruns as I could, I fell more and more in love with the couple.

I've heard all of the arguments. Angel's a 200+ year old pedophile, Buffy was a teenager who couldn't possibly be in love, blah blah biddy blah.

In Season 1, this argument could have worked. Buffy was extremely flakey and rather shallow. Post Prophecy Girl, this argument does not hold water. Buffy grew up SO much in the summer between Seasons 1 and 2. Not because she was a bratty hormonal teenager, but because she DIED, and fully embraced her role as the slayer. If it had been a physical change, she'd be 8 feet tall and weigh 300 pounds. For all intents and purposes, Buffy was more adult than almost all of the adults featured on this show.

Yes, Angel had been around for a very, very long time, but he was sired at, what, 17? Other than Darla, we didn't see him have real emotions for any woman other than Buffy. And you can't even include Darla in this, because it was soulless obssession and lust.

Their relationship grew and blossomed before our eyes, and then they made love, and the world went to hell. And my heart exploded with pain everytime Buffy cried over Angel, everytime Angelus did something to hurt her. And he got his soul back, and she sent him to hell. True sacrifice. The sacrifice of an adult.

Angel came back. And they attempted to stay apart. Angel showed very real, very strong remorse for what Buffy had been through. Yes, he was abusive to her when he lost his soul, but he showed 100x over how sorry he was and worked to regain her trust. Unlike some other abusive relationships Buffy was in later.

And to save her, Angel left. And the B/A world cried. And the few B/A moments we had in the next three years sustained all of us. I Will Remember You. Pangs. Forever.

I don't have the energy to look up the bullshit episode where Angel and Cordelia bumped uglies in Angel Season 4. But you know what?

He said Buffy's name. Yep, we all heard it, and we screamed with glee. We all almost came right there with him.

And in Chosen, the groundwork for hundreds of pieces of fanfiction was laid down. It didn't matter that she stupidly fucked Spike after all that happened. The cookie dough's in the oven, and the fans can be happy.

I love my Buffy/Angel more than any other conventional ship on any show.
Ether I'm borrowing all your albums, or I'm moving in. Hey. Where'd that come from?

TV Meme Day 20: Kiss Me

Day 20 - Favorite kiss

The pairing for this one was easy. It was picking between two scenes for them.

Season six was the worst season of Buffy ever. EVER. Just thinking of it gets me angry and upset. Buffy and Spike abusing each other, Xander and Anya losing all of the sweetness we'd come to love in them. Dawn's existance. Giles' nonexistance. Willow's magic crack. NO GOOD COMES FROM WATCHING SEASON SIX.

And Willow and Tara broke up, and the entire world cried. Not for Willow, mind you, because Marti Noxon worked damn hard to make me despise Willow as a girlfriend. Tara deserved a hell of a lot better than what she got in this season.

And they would meet up and there would be awkward pain that would nearly bring tears when you remembered how much this relationship had grown in two seasons.

And then Entropy. Tara and Willow went on a date, and it was sweet, and so hopeful. And the final scene, with Tara in the doorway, and the Once More With Feeling dress in the background.

Tara: "There's just so much to work through. Trust has to build again, on both sides. You have to learn if...if we're even the same people we were, if you can fit in each other's lives, it's a long and important process and...can we just skip it? Can you...can you just be kissing me now?"

I was spoiled for this part, and I still cried like a baby when Willow and Tara ran at each other and had the greatest kiss on television. When I made a group video for BTVS about the different relationships in the show to the song "White Flag" by Dido, I used this kiss for the best part of the song. It was pre-planned because this was the most important kiss.

And then in the next episode. Sigh.

TV Meme Days 18 and 19: Two for the price of one

Day 18 | Favorite title sequence

I have a deep and abiding love for the Showtime series Dexter. When I first heard the premise of it, I knew immediately that this was a show I needed to watch. My weird proclivity for all things serial killers pretty much insisted upon it. It was just an added bonus that Julie Benz also had a role.

Everything about this title sequence is fabulous. Activities that are done every single day are made to look so extraordinarily sinister. Who knew cutting ham was so macabre? And wow, do I eat my eggs with such carnivorous vigor? And could I suffocate pulling a shirt on in the morning?!

The music is also fantastic. The first notes are a little sinister, but then it rolls out into this sort of happy go lucky type of music. It's what I would expect from a show that truly is a dark comedy.

My only complaint? Good grief, that is a big breakfast for one human being.

Day 19 - Best TV show cast

Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucckkk youuuuuuuuuuuuu meme.

That's fine. I'm adding a caveat to this.

Day 19 - Best TV show cast that is not Whedon-made

Because it's truly unfair to do this to me.

Dead Like Me

This is another show I didn't get to watch while it was being aired. I managed to catch one episode during a Free Trial Weekend, and it did leave quite an impression. But I wasn't paying the cable bill at the time, so I didn't get to see the entire series until post cancellation.

What amuses me so much about this show is that three members of the cast were huge parts of my growing up pop culture.

Mandy Patinkin, who plays Rube, is not only Inigo Montoya, he's also 88 Keys from Dick Tracey, a movie I adored growing up. He's got a singing voice that could lull a rabid pit bull to sleep, and his speaking voice is nothing to shrug off. I cannot imagine anyone else playing Rube with the same amount of hardass and heart.

I grew up watching Jasmine Guy on A Different World. I LOVED that show, and it made me want to go to college so badly. Not that I did, but maybe it's because the show ended too far a time before I became disenchanted and bitter. As Whitley, Jasmine was a spoiled southern bitch, and I loved her. She wasn't my favorite character (that would be Dwayne Wayne), but I loved when she was on screen. As Roxy? Oh, god, let's not kid ourselves. Effing awesome.

In 1990 I was eight years old. Nickelodeon was my channel, and every show on it was my show. This was especially true for Fifteen. It didn't matter that I was eight and the age of fifteen was as foreign to me as anything outside of my small hometown. This show was DEEP! There was alcohol being imbibed, and (gasp!) kissing being done. I was a grown-up when I watched that show! And Laura Harris played Ashley. I hated the way she talked then, and she didn't improve on Dead Like Me. But I was still thrilled to see her.

I didn't recognize Ellen Muth at all. Turns out she's a Canadian actor who was in the movie Dolores Claiborne, which I had seen. Didn't remember her. But it kills me that this chick hasn't been in more movies and TV shows. As George, she is FANTASTIC. Sarcastic, bitchy, and gorgeous, I wanted to be reaped by her. Just fantastic.

And last but not least, an actor I didn't know at all, Callum Blue. No clue who he was, but I LOVED him, from moment one. He's the screw up, and he plays it with humor and realism. It would be really easy to make him this tragic character. Callum plays drug addled hobo-esque Mason with such "who gives a fuck" casualty that there is no distraction from the humor.

The side actors, such as Kiffany the waitress and George's parents are also fantastic. This show didn't have a weak link in the bunch. It really should've lasted a lot longer than 2 seasons.

TV Meme Day 17: Mini-Series

Day 17 - Favorite mini series

I was worried about this question when I first looked at the meme. I don't watch a lot of mini serieses. Series'. Whatever. I thought I was going to have to use Battlestar: Galactica, and that felt like a cop-out. Then yesterday, while trying to figure out how to work a blog entry, I flashed to the fact that Angels in America was, in fact, a mini series.

When AiA first aired, I didn't have HBO. And my friends were raving about this mini series called Angels in America, and how they were looking forward to the next part. I had no idea really what it was about, who was in it, anything. But I trusted the taste of these friends, and I really really wanted to see it.

It wasn't until after it came out on DVD that I got to watch it, at my best friend's house. That she loved this movie as much as she did is a true testament to how freaking incredible the movie is. This isn't the blog for me to go into this story, but her absolute adoration of the movie just touched my heart like you wouldn't believe.

This movie is so beautiful. Visually, cast wise, the dialogue. I cannot imagine having to watch it during the original airing, and having to wait between each installment.
And my favorite actors are not even the huge names, Meryl Streep and Al Pacino. I adore Justin Kirk in the role of Prior Walter. He brought so much realism to the role, and my heart pretty much bled like a stuck pig for him.
Even more than him, my favorite character is Harper, played by Mary-Louise Parker. She really does get all of the best lines in the movie, and all of her scenes are utterly surreal. She's the most fun to watch on the screen.

Both of those characters manipulate my emotions throughout the movie. Everything I feel directly swirls around how they are feeling. Needless to say, I get some real heart spasms.
Emma Thompson as the Angel? We don't even need to discuss it. Perfection, and beauty.

I bought the screenplay book from Amazon, and read it while laying on the beach. I was thrilled to see how well the movie followed the stage directions. I thought it was done to perfection.

I need to own this. The best friend still owns it. I really need to borrow it from her ASAP.

TV Meme Day 16 - Guilty Pleasures

Day 16 - Your guilty pleasure show

I was going to do a two-day entry, since I didn't get to yesterday's question, but then I saw the question for today. That deserves its own entry. Hopefully to be actually posted today.

I define a guilty pleasure show as something you're rather embarassed to admit you enjoy watching. If ever there was a show that gave me reason to have shame, it would be America's Next Top Model.

I started watching the show during the fifth season (NO, I will NOT call it a cycle), towards the end. I was intrigued, so I started watching the reruns. I watched mostly like this O_O. What a train wreck of a show this is. How can I not watch everysingleepisodeever?!

I'm two seasons behind, though my DVD has picked up Oxygen's rerun of the lastest season. I'll get there someday. And honestly, it stopped being something worth watching quite a long while back, but it's almost impossible to stop. It's like cigarettes. Or Pringles.

I despise Tyra Banks. I mean, I despise her as much as she loves herself*. She's disgustingly fake. And what's sad is, during the first two or three seasons, she seemed like a very real role model. She was there on set, supporting the girls, working with them. And then, I don't know. Apparently she gained weight, hair, and Stupid Bitchitude. I didn't think getting a big ass made you evil and hypocritical.

But I love watching these girls kill themselves for something as pointless as this show. I'm not saying modeling is pointless. I enjoy high fashion photo spreads in magazines. Not the fake shit in Seventeen and Cosmopolitan, I mean the artistic pieces, such as the ones in Interview. I barely read the articles in that magazine anymore, but I love the gorgeous photo spreads. So I can see a model being useful for that.

But I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen any of these girls in something that was not ANTM related. And that includes the winners.

This show is so dramatic. That's the fun part. These photo shoots are absolutely batshit insane, dreamed up by someone who thinks barking like a rabid dog on her talk show is appropriate, so what would I expect? The household drama, the constant medical drama. I really want there to be a slapfest that gets one of the girls kicked out. I'm REALLY looking forward to that. It's coming.

The show's been on for something like 12 seasons now, and do you know how many winners I've been happy about? Legitimately happy, not happy because one of the other idiots didn't win? One. (Go Eva!)

So why do I watch this show?

Because I love drama, and I love mocking Tyra Banks.

::shrug:: That's why it's a guilty pleasure.

* Damn. I totally thought I made that up, but apparently not? ^

TV Meme Day 15: Reach out and touch...

Day 15 - Favorite female character

A day late, because my niece had her finale playoff softball game last night. We lost, but still. Priorities.

I cannot even pretend this was a difficult decision for me. It would be insulting to everyone who knows me. In fact, when I skimmed the meme before deciding to do it, I laughed when I saw this one.

What was difficult, however, was picking out the pictures I wanted to use for it. I mean, this is my woman. This is my character. How do you pick the best pictures to talk about her?

So, really, this is just a Faith/Eliza love fest in words and pictures. Prepare yourself. Because when I started wading through and sorting, I had 171 pictures. Luckily for you guys, most of them got weeded out, or put into the opening graphic.

Top Chef Round Up

Top Chef Season 7 premieres tomorrow. I'm legitimately excited. I hated Top Chef Masters, I found it schizophrenic and kind of boring. I would think I'd like it even more, because I love watching people cook good food. But the "amateur" chefs tend to make better dishes than these "Masters", so I couldn't wait for the new season.

I'm ready for the new season. Not only is it in DC, but my Chef Boyfriend, Eric Ripert, is the new judge. I'm a little worried this will be similar to when Miss Jay became a regular judge on ANTM. A character who was tons o'fun as an occasional character can become damn near unbearable as a constant. But with a voice like his and those beautiful soft lips, I really don't think I will ever grow bored with Mr. Ripert. I would like him to be the official speaker for the entire judges panel.

Ahem. Anyway. Padma finally popped out her puppy, so it's on. And to celebrate, I'm making a list of my top 10 favorite "Cheftestants" from the last six seasons.

I judge the chefs based both on food and personality. For example, Tiffany from Season 1 made the best dishes of the season. However, she was a horrible human being and a real cunt, so she'll never make a favorite list for me of ANYTHING. Except maybe "Top Choices for Death by Cuisinart".

So, without further ado.

TV Meme Day 14 - I'd like to test that theory

Day 14 - Favorite male character

I can answer this for almost all of my BTVS friends, and maybe a few non-BTVS friends. And I think my choice isn't what most people would expect. Or maybe they would, and I don't know myself as well as others do.

When I first started watching BTVS, it was because of Seth Green, and David Boreanaz in his leather pants. And I loved Oz, and Angelus, very much. And I loved Spike like crazy until Season 6.

But Angel got whiny as HELL. And Spike became so whipped I wanted to hurl things at the TV whenever he appeared. And Oz left.

But my love for Giles never stopped. From the first episode I watched purposefully and on, he was mine. Wonderfully stiff and British, gorgeous, and with just the right amount of character to make you wonder what was under all the tweed.

I caught up on Seasons 1 and 2 in the middle of Season 5, but I'd read all of the episode guides and read quotes and seen images. One of the episodes I wanted to see the most was The Dark Age. Giles as a human being, not just as a watcher. And I wasn't let down at all. I still love watching that episode, and seeing Giles break for the first time.

Giles is the father figure of this group, and he is fallible. He plays the role so beautifully, with the stern looks and fierce protectiveness. I could give countless examples of him being the adult, but isn't it funner when he wasn't so adult? I mean...can we discuss Band Candy?

And then he left. And you know what happens when Giles leaves Sunnydale?

The goddamn world explodes.

His reappearance was the single greatest moment of Season 6 that didn't occur in Once More With Feeling. And I was spoiled for it, but I wasn't prepared for how he was coming in, and I screamed and screeched with delight.

Rupert Giles is the greatest male character on any TV show. If you've given a different answer, I call bullshit.

I can't find the video I want. However, this one will do.

TV Meme Day 13: Hocus Pocus Alimagocus

Day 13 - Favorite childhood show

Ohhh, how easy this one is for me. Now, I was a HUGE Nickelodeon child. As a child who went to a $20,000 a year Catholic school, you wouldn't think I would be the only kid in my class to get that channel, but this was the 80's, after all. And I loved everything that came on that channel, from Pinwheel to Laugh-In.

But my all-time favorite show was Today's Special. It took place in a department store, after hours, and involved the lady who worked in the children's department, Jodie, and a mannequin named Jeff who comes to life when you say the magic words. But if you took his hat off, he returned to mannequin state.

The magic words are in the title. Are they spelled right? Pffft.

There was also a security guard named Sam. I think if you'd asked me back when I originally watched this, I would not have been able to tell you that Sam was a puppet. Which makes me look back at my Sesame Street love a whole lot differently, as well. Did I think Big Bird was a real bird?

And Muffy, the mouse. I remember she had a high squeaky voice, and a gorgeous pink room with lots of lace.

At one point, there was a VHS tape in my house full of episodes of this show. I watched it well after Nickelodeon stopped airing it. My dad eventually taped over it, and I don't believe I've ever forgiven him for that.

The one episode I'll always remember is when Jeff was trying to find a home. I even remember two lines of the song, which were, "A home of my own, a place I can live in..." And then I can hum the next part. But that's about it. I remember him trying to live in an igloo, with a bowl of frozen soup. And at the end of the episode, they got him this HUGENORMOUS cardboard box, which they decorated and made into a home for him.

As a child who lived for refrigerator boxes (the best house I ever made was from the box from our trash compactor), this made such complete sense to me.

I loved this show, and dammit, they need to put it out on DVD. There's no reason not to have all of the old Nickelodeon shows out on DVD, especially this and You Can't Do This on Television. It's infuriating.

TV Meme Days 10-12: Playing Catch Up

It's not that I'm losing steam, I'm just losing sleep. I started a new job, and getting four hours of sleep two days in a row destroyed my thought process. But I'm refreshed and renewed and ready to get back to work on the meme.

Day 10 - A show you thought you wouldn’t like but ended up loving

I flaked when it came to this one at first. Half the time, I just assume a show is going to suck. Given the types of projects I follow my people to (Tru Calling, Close to home, Four Kings), I just figure these shows are going to suck, but my favorite actors are going to rock in them. But RyAn actually gave me my answer right away, and I felt like a dingbat for not seeing it without his help.
Battlestar Galactica

I did not anticipate liking this show NEARLY as much as I actually did. I figured there would be bits that I liked, and pretty people to look at, but I didn't have high hopes. When I first started writing up my entry about the show, I even said, "This isn't going to be a show I sing the praises of all the time."

Little did I know just how wrong I was. I've finished the second season, and refuse to watch the third until I get the blog post written for it, and it's absolutely murdering me. The way the 2nd season ended has me up in knots, wanting to know JUST WHAT THE HELL HAPPENS, and I'm fearful of getting spoiled. The twists and turns are fabulous, and the heart of the show is exactly what I look forward to. Science fiction is not something I actively reach for, so to enjoy it as much as I do is a wonderful surprise.

TV Meme Day 9: Best Scene Ever

Here's another one that is impossible to answer quickly.

However, unlike most of my friends, I have the advantage here. In that I do not watch enough shows to get a true headache.

Best scenes ever are scenes that garner a reaction from me. Doesn't matter if it's laughter or tears, they have to get a really strong reaction. And the best scenes normally are the ones that have me bawling. After giving this an extremely large amount of thought, I came up with two that I couldn't choose between. So I figured, okay, I'll do both.

Then I went looking for screencaps, and got more ideas. CURSES!

So. Best Scene Ever from Angel (2), Buffy (2), Firefly, and Dollhouse.

TV Meme Day 8: This meme hates me

Day 08 - A show everyone should watch

This meme is just geared toward not me.

I watch a lot of TV, but I don't watch CURRENT TV. And what I watch, everyone that matters is already watching (except Leverage, which we've already discussed). Hell, the best friend's parents were watching Dollhouse without me having to say anything!!

But it says nothing about current TV, right? This could be something on repeat, or something on DVD. I don't know if this show is on DVD, but I do know Logo is running repeats, and if I'm not mistaken, MTV2 is also.

Daria came out when I was in high school, and I loved it from minute one. It was a huge thing with my high school girlfriends. We would quote the show, and mimic the characters. I did a crazy accurate impression of Helen ("Giiiiirlsss!! Have you seen your father's SPIRIT ANIMAL?!") and Tiffany (She's not hard, you just have to sound like a stoned valley girl).

Trent is the cartoon character to out-do all cartoon characters. I still have a crush on him, and the show's been off the air for quite some time now.

The show had everything. It was perfect for anyone in high school at the time. We all wanted to be friends with Daria, we all hated Quinn and loved when Daria got the best of her (i.e., always).

If you've never seen the show, please to be finding it. If you watch only ONE episode, make it Pierce Me. It's Trent heavy, Daria gets to have fun, and there's still some Fashion Club madness.

I'm starting to hate this meme.

TV Meme Day 7: Least Favorite Episode

This is really not that much easier than favorite, despite what RyAn may say.

I mean, seriously. I really hate not liking BTVS episodes. Even Season 7, where I've seen 3/4 of the episodes only once, has its high points. I mean, Xander gets his eye gouged out. That makes most of Season 7 worth it.

The first episode that really felt like a waste of amazing writers and cast was Where the Wild Things Are. The endless Biley orgy, dear god, could've done without that times 100. HOWEVER, to say that is a least favorite is to completely discount the beautiful Anthony Stewart Head rendition of "Behind Blue Eyes". I'll be damned if that gets slapped down because of Marc Blucas.

Then there was Listening to Fear in Season 5. Oh, dear effing god, really? Really? You're going to subject me to a goddamn cockroach demon? That was so obviously plastic that Buffy "fighting" it looked more like someone wrestling with those giant Bop-py Clowns that just keep popping back up. Was there even anyone IN the costume? But to discount that episode is to completely ignore The Big Pineapple. And Buffy's breakdown in the kitchen. Neither of which is an option.

Then there's Wrecked, the episode with the Magic Fucking Crack. But I just can't bring myself to expend the energy on such a pointless metaphor.

I could easily fast forward to what would be most people's least favorite episode, for very good reason. But that episode isn't the worst one. The worst one was the episode that was the direct lead up to it. And if I have my way, it's going to get left out of niece's marathon of the season.

TV Meme Day 6: Favorite Episode

Day 06 - Favorite episode of your favorite TV show

Heh heh. Heh. Oh, god.

Logo TV had a poll to pick viewers' 10 favorite Buffy episodes, and then they did a marathon of the top choices. Myself and my friend Joey were dying trying to choose the top 10. So the idea of choosing all time favorite is giving me a bit of a headache.

Do you choose a funny episode, like Tabula Rasa, Something Blue Or Who Are You? A tear jerker, like The Gift, Amends, or Becoming Pt 2? An epic episode, like Once More With Feeling, Conversations with Dead People, or The Wish? It's practically impossible to choose.

I can safely say Season 3 of BTVS was my favorite season. Almost all of my favorite characters are there (If we'd introduced Tara here, it would be absolutely perfect), and every episode had something. There wasn't a dull episode in the bunch. The season arc was amazing, the villain was one of the best if not *the* best. There's just so much good, the best episode has to come from it.

Now. Which to pick?

After fighting with this for a considerable time, I'm going to pick an episode that doesn't really fall into any of the big episode lists. When it comes down to the average top 10 lists, I think this one gets passed over fairly regularly, and that's a shame.

TV Meme Day Five: The Fucking Hills

Day 05 | A show you hate

There are a lot of shows I wouldn't lower myself to watch, such as Dancing with the stars, The Bachelor/ette, American Idol (other than the auditions), etc. But I don't necessarily hate those shows. I'm just bored with them. Seriously. I see no point to American Idol. Ever.

But when it comes down to a show I can actually slap the "hate" label on? There really isn't another option.

As mentioned in my RHoNY entry, I HATE reality TV. But what I hate more than reality TV is non-reality reality. Oh, no, this is our real life! But we're not talking about what is actually going on in our real life. Only what ELSE is happening.

The people of The Hills make my teeth ache. I wish I could erase the knowledge of them from my brain. Knowing that there are people so vapid and pointless, being paid such insane amounts of money to spread that stupidity to the world...this is what is wrong with the world.

It's not even just that the show isn't real. I mean, even the hardcore viewers seem to know these morons are reading from scripts and re-shooting events that happened off camera. How you can want to watch a reality show that basically brags about being scripted is beyond me.

It's the fact that this show takes everything that you SHOULDN'T aspire to be, and accentuates it. Never more clearly than with Heidi and Spencer. These people should have been sterilized at birth.

I have never seen an episode of this show. I do watch The Soup, though. The 3 second clips from the show have hurt my brain so much I can't possibly imagine ever sitting through a full episode without killing a few brain cells.

Hate. Hate to the umpteenth degree.

TV Meme Day 4: This is too easy

Day 04 - Your favorite show ever

You know, some questions...they just...come on.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is just...I cannot stress enough that, if you haven't watched the show, you cannot possibly understand the level of love the fans have for it.

If you google "Buffy", you will find out. Especially if you consider just how long it has been since the series premiere, "Chosen" aired. There aren't a lot of shows with such an amazingly loyal fan base this far down the road. There aren't a lot of shows where fans flock by the hundreds to see the actors at conventions. Well, short of Star Trek, and let's face it, our fans are prettier.

There's nothing I can say here that hasn't been said already. And there aren't enough words to explain how deep my love for this show, and these people, goes.

The Not Exactly Real Housewives of NYC

I don't watch a lot of reality TV. In general, I find it extremely vapid and irritating. Obviously the people involved are aware of the cameras there, which means they're acting up/out to get more camera time. And that's to say nothing of pick-up shots of scenes that were juicy, but darnit, the camera just didn't hit the right angle, so can we do it again, please? As reality television increased, more and more people were given the chance to show off, which means more drama and more acting out. Average people are not featured on reality TV anymore, they're not interesting enough. In fact, the casts of the first 6 or 7 seasons of the original reality show, The Real World, would probably not even get a foot in the door on the show nowadays.

I enjoy the hell out of reality show competitions. I'm sincerely looking forward to the next season of Top Chef, and I'm beyond aggravated at how two of my favorite shows, Project Runway and America's Next Top Model, have slid so rapidly downhill it makes me sick. But for me, reality shows without some form of competition are like porn without plot. Sure, it can be fun. But eventually you get bored. As I said, this is for me. Plenty of people don't need the naughty college girl to get interrupted by the cable repairman while in her filmy lingerie. They just want him to take off the uniform. I need a little foreplay.

What was I talking about?

TV Meme: Day Three - So I cheated

Day 03 | Your favorite new show (aired this TV season)

Okay, this is one of those questions I honestly cannot provide an answer for. Not only because I haven't had the television/internet access, but because there haven't been all that many shows I've found worth paying attention to.

My friends have many options, such as Glee (my own personal unwatched punching bag), Community, Modern Family, Cougar Town. While Community and Modern Family both sound rather promising, I'm just not willing to jump on the New TV band wagon.

If an actor I love is in a show, I'm willing to give it a shot, as previously discussed. This is how I became a fan of Castle, Leverage, HIMYM, and so many others. But if I don't have someone attached to the show, I have no impetus to watch it.

I could cheat. I could say V, or Happy Town, or Spartacus: Sand and Blood. All three have been downloaded by me, or DVR'd (to be watched eventually). However, I have not actually seen even one episode yet. This is a my fault situation.

I can cheat easily if I take the parentheses out of the question. A new show? Easy! There are SO many shows that are new for me!

Bam, baby

Done!

TV Meme: Day Two - I'm good

Day 02 | A show that you wish more people were watching

Can I posthumously say Dollhouse?
/deadpan

Honestly, other than my now very much dead shows, there aren't shows on right now that I'm dissatisfied with the ratings.

Now, if we're talking shows my friends should be watching in particular? Yes, I'm annoyed that only TWO of my friends are watching Leverage. There is absolutely NO logic behind not watching it. For one thing, it's a summer show. It will not interfere with your damn Glee.

Secondly, Christian Kane!! HELLO?!?! If you're friends with me, you know who he is. You have HEARD him sing. You have SEEN him act. You have SEEN the hair.

Thirdly, it's so ridiculously geek friendly. The character of Hardison was WRITTEN for you people. For Christ's sake, it references Doctor Who minimally once every other episode.

Fourth, it's CHRISTIAN KANE.

Anyway.

Leverage is doing great. It's already set for season three, the fan base is smallish but strong and loyal. It's already had a convention. How many conventions did Gleeeee have? Hmmmmmmmmm?

So screw you guys. I don't need you to watch ANY of my shows. More Leverage love for me, and I get to feel superior to you all.

SO THERE.

TV Meme: Day One - My So-called Life

Day 01 | A show that should have never been canceled

There are so many shows that can fill this slot. Firefly, Wonderfalls, Dollhouse. But let's go back. Before I was an internet junkie, before I had a sense of myself, or a good strong friend base. Before I was Bunny.

My So-Called Life premiered in 1994, and ran to 1995. Unlike Firefly and Wonderfalls, it managed to survive one season. Unlike Dollhouse, it was not given a chance to give closure. And therein lies the really painful part.

30 Day TV Meme

I have quite a few shows to do write-ups on, including the horror of Project Runway Season 7. But I'm having a difficult time collecting my thoughts on just one at a time. I'm hoping copping my friend RyAn's idea will give me a nice little kick in the ass.

30 Days hath June (or whatever that rhyme was). So this is the perfect month to do the 30 Day TV Meme.

Looking at my options, I don't know if I'll come up with something for every entry. But I'm excited to try.
