Oh, how I want to be in that number

Take note: You will not be seeing this tag on this blog very often. I was not born with the Sports Appreciation Gene, nor with the Team Spirit Gene.

I've been a resident of Louisiana for almost 28 years now. In that time, I've learned that there is no greater state than Louisiana. Admittedly, I have not traveled much outside of the Southern US. I have visited the second greatest state, New York, and gotten to walk through the second greatest city, New York City. But it still doesn't compare with New Orleans.

I take pride in the food. In the history. In the architecture. Not so much the political attitudes, nor the blatant racism, sexism, and everythingelseism, or the murder count, but other than that, the people down here are very friendly and easy going.

What I've never taken pride in is our football team.

I've spent my entire life dealing with football fanatics. The business my grandfather is in, whenever we were at my grandparents' home, he was watching sports. Basketball, football, baseball, everything. I tired of it quickly.

Not to mention, we're dealing with one of the saddest football teams in history. For decades upon decades, being a Saints fan was a joke.

And now?

Now The Saints are in the Superbowl. For the first time ever. Not only that, but they made history, along with the Colts. For the first time in NFL history, two teams went 13-0, and both are in the Super Bowl. Pretty huge, right?

I can't seem to get excited. And I feel bad, because this is something ALL LOUISIANIANS have been waiting for.

There's a 20% chance I'll watch the Superbowl. Most likely, though, I will avoid it and try to download the half-time show and commercials later.

There was enough pride for me to make a blog post, though. It's small, but it's there.

On an unrelated side note, Neil Gaiman's 14-year old blind cat Zoe passed away today. I've read about Zoe's troubles for the past two weeks, and have gotten emotional reading his entries.

People have been e-mailing him to offer condolensces. I've said a couple of pointless 140-character things on Twitter, but didn't want to intrude on his moment. So I offer it up here.

Few things hurt like losing a pet. My heart breaks for him, and for those actually close enough to really be upset at Zoe's loss. Rainbow Bridge wishes for the lot of them.

Little Mound of Horrors

I was working on my entry for Season 1 of The Tudors. Slow going, for some reason Blogger hates my work computer. But then I sat down at my mom's house tonight, and watched...The Ruins.

Mind you, I didn't actually WANT to watch this. I read the book in '08, and that's a series of time I will NEVER GET BACK. The horrors, the horrors. But I left it on without thinking about it, and who should appear on the screen but Joe Anderson.

I get by with a little help from my friends

For those who don't recognize this very pretty Kurt Cobain-look alike, he played Max in Across The Universe, which is one of my top five all-time favorite movies. He can sing, he can dance, he can look at me with those eyes and get happiness in the form of a warm gun anytime.

::sigh:: I guess I have to watch the damn movie after all.

This is not a love story

Penis!

I had originally planned on making my thoughts on Final Destination 4 my first entry in this blog. I’d written most of snark out in my head already, in fact. But really, why start out on such a negative note? And really, it is hard to get lower and more negative than that movie.

Some time back, I mentioned to my best friend (herein referred to as The Best Friend, or TBF) that my lovely pal RyAn had sung the praises of the movie 500 Days of Summer. She received a coupon from Blockbuster that allowed her to rent any movie for $1.99. Remembering my recommendation, she rented it, along with Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.

Introduction

Blame Final Destination 4.

I love watching movies, and television. When I bought my house in 2009, I couldn't (and still can't) afford cable, or internet, so I had to rely solely on the library's DVD collection. I didn't realize just how extensive that is, and I've been watching more movies and TV-on-DVD than I thought possible.

While watching, I Twittered about what I was seeing. Some things were easy to say in 140-characters. Sometimes I created a Tweeticane of love, or disgust.

Then my mother's boyfriend let me borrow FD4. And all hell broke loose.

I decided I needed a blog to keep track of what I was watching. I am a GoodReads fanatic, and my ability to organize what I'd read in a year's time was music soothing the savage beast of my control issues.

So this blog is for the pop culture side of the coin.

I will be posting my thoughts on movies, TV, and any other event that tickles my proverbial fancy.

Things I can guarantee:

1) You will never. EVER. find a review of Twilight or any of it's hateful spawn. If you want to know why, please see my reviews of book one, two, and three. That only touches the tip of the iceberg of my Meyer hate.

2) You will see things that are not recent. I don't tend to see movies in the theater, and I'm usually hold 104 out of 105 at the libary for new DVDs. Prepare for old schoolness. I'm talking Karate Kid and Frasier. If I manage to sneak in a few new ones in a timely fashion, yay on me.

3) I am a Whedonite. In short, any actor affiliated with Joss Whedon and his creations (Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel/Firefly/Dollhouse) is a friend to me. I will watch anything these people are in, the good (How I Met Your Mother), the bad (the short lived Close to Home), and the ugly (the movie Feast). This has been a blessing and a curse, but I'm not planning on stopping anytime soon.

So sit back, grab some popcorn and earmuffs, and enjoy the ride.
